For families of 3–4 going anywhere other than Paddington area, a private saloon at £65 is cheaper than 4 Express tickets (£100) plus a connecting taxi from Paddington. Heathrow Express is 15 minutes to Paddington — fastest if Paddington is your destination. But if you're going to Knightsbridge, Mayfair, Kensington or any non-Paddington hotel, factor in another 20 minutes by Tube/taxi plus walking with luggage. Private transfer is ~50 minutes door-to-door regardless of destination, and you arrive at your hotel lobby, not a station.

Heathrow Express does not enforce luggage limits, but practically each passenger can manage a carry-on plus one large checked bag with the overhead racks and floor space. Heathrow Express runs to its schedule regardless — if you miss the train you booked, your ticket is still valid for the next service. A pre-booked private transfer monitors your flight via free tracking and auto-adjusts the pickup time; there's no late-arrival fee. For severely delayed long-haul arrivals after 11:30 PM, only the private transfer still works (Express has stopped running).
